The FJ Cruiser might not be Toyota’s hottest seller at the moment – sales are down 56.8 percent to just 7,148 FJ Cruisers so far this year – but the Japanese automaker hopes that a few changes to its engine and suspension are the kick-in-the-pants the SUV needs. Power is up 19 horsepower, yet the 2010 FJ Cruiser will be rated at 1 mpg higher than the outgoing model.
Toyota says it has added dual variable valve timing and roller rocker arms to the FJ Cruiser’s 4.0-liter V6. The engine is also shared with the Tacoma, though Toyota says that small pickup rolls into the new model year unchanged. Horsepower will be rated at 258 and fuel economy should be up as high as 18 city and 22 highway on the two-wheel-drive version.
To top it all off, Toyota says that some minor suspension modifications have dropped the turning circle by more than a foot and a new Army Green exterior color will be on offer.
Prices are up $360 across the board.
